I have a confession to make — I very rarely, almost never, pay full price for makeup and cosmetics products. I like and use products from many different brands, both prestige and drugstore brands. From Butter London to Neutrogena, from Revlon to Urban Decay, I have tons of favorites, and I have bought them all at a discount.

Want to know how to do it? It is actually pretty simple, and here are my tips to help you save money on makeup as well:

– Don’t Buy The Latest And Greatest, As Soon As It Comes Out. You know how it is — your favorite brand releases a new palette, blush or lipstick, you want to buy it immediately. But, don’t do it. If you buy it immediately, chances are, you will not be able to get any discount on it. Everyone wants it, so sometimes even if there are some discounts available, you will not be able to use them on this brand new item.

I have been eyeing Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette for a very long time. I really wanted to buy it, before it came out. I did buy it about a year ago, using a $15 discount at Sephora. I love it, it is one palette that I reach for a lot! And I got it with a discount, how great is that?

What should you do instead of buying the latest and greatest? Add this item to your List Of Things To Buy (see my next item for more information). This way you will keep it in mind next time you have a discount, and are wondering about what to buy.

– Have A To Buy List. This one is my favorite! Create a list of items you would like to buy. I like to include two types of items on my To Buy List. One type are the new (or new to me) items that I just found out about, and I must have. The other type are the items I love, and am about to run out of.

Then, when I receive deals and discounts, I look at the To Buy List, to see what I need to buy.

– Shop Sales Sections. There are great sales sections, both online and at the stores. I frequently browse the sales sections online at Ulta, Sephora and Beauty. I also like to check out the sales sections at the actual stores — there are tons of deals to be had.

And don’t forget TJ Maxx and Marshalls stores. Recently I have seen Butter London, Julep, OPI,, Ciate Nail Polishes, Bliss Products and much more at these stores at great prices!

– Join Rewards Programs. Have you joined rewards programs? At Ulta, when you join the rewards program, you can earn points on your purchases, and then you can redeem those points towards any products you want to buy. If you a Platinum member, then your points do not expire. If you are not, they will expire, so make sure to use them, before they expire.

At Sephora, you can redeem your points for deluxe sizes of various products.

– Wait For Deals. I love deals! Sign up for the newsletters on the web sites where you shop for makeup, as well as on the web sites of the actual brands that you like. And wait for a deal before shopping, so that you can save!

Many times you will receive offers of coupons, special deals, gifts with purchases and more. You just need to subscribe to their newsletters, and you will start receiving the deals!

Some of my favorite deals include 21 Days of Beauty at Ulta, Black Friday at Ulta and Sephora, coupons that I receive from Ulta and Sephora, gifts with purchases, and more!

– Look For Gifts With Purchase. Do you love gifts with purchase? I do! Sometimes a gift is a deluxe size item, sometimes it is a few samples, sometimes it is a whole makeup bag with quite a few samples!

– Buy Makeup Sets and Eye Shadow Palettes. Sets and palettes are fabulous and buying them can save you a lot of money!

Another reason reason I really wanted to buy Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette is because the price of a single Urban Decay eye shadow is $18. With the Naked 2 Palette, you are getting 12 eye shadows for $54! If you were to buy them as singles, you would spend $18 times 12, which is $216! It is a great deal for $54, and if you can get a coupon or a gift with purchase (or both!), it would be even better.

Another example are sets of different products, usually in deluxe sizes that you can buy. I like Sephora Favorites Sets, and here is an example, now Sephora Favorites Summerstash is now on sale for $30, instead of $45! For $30 you can get nine different products, and a cosmetics bag. If you have been thinking about trying some of these products, then this is definitely a good deal!
